To reach the cemetery from the center of town on Hwy 11, turn south onto Koochiching Country Rd 18, and continue for about 1/2 mile, turning left at the first intersection, Lake of the Woods County Rd 79. The cemetery will be on the north side of the street in a very short distance.

This Community Cemetery was established in 1898 as the Rapid River Lutheran Cemetery, with the first burial in 1907. The 1.08 acres of land for the cemetery was given by Helic Clementson. The deed was not filed until Dec 1925.

Today the cemetery is more commonly know as the Clementson Cemetery. A cemetery committee oversees the care and maintenance. The cemetery is fenced, nicely kept, with graves cared for by individuals.

The majority of the graves have stone markers, with a few still to be correctly identified and marked. The identity of one burial marked with a small white cross is unknown.

An earlier account lists the first burial in the cemetery as occuring in 1907. I was unable to find any burial before 1911, it is reasonable to assume that the site and identity of some early graves has been lost. This thought is furthered by some additional names found in the early church records. Some are identified in the death register of Gudrid township.
